The 2022 GV70, a new small luxury SUV from Genesis, continues the brand’s unbeatable tradition. This SUV is based on the G70 sedan, and it combines the best of both vehicles. Good looks, an upscale cabin, and a comfortable ride are just some of the reasons why you should consider the GV70. It’s reasonably priced and offers a lot of value making it one of the best options in the segment.

Performance & Handling

A 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower comes standard on the 2022 GV70. This engine offers enough power for everyday driving needs. Whether you’re driving in city streets or cruising on the highway, this engine delivers a satisfying amount of acceleration and responsiveness. The 8-speed automatic transmission in the GV70 delivers seamless and smooth gear changes. However, when you want a more sporty experience, the transmission is quick to respond, delivering quick and precise shifts.

While the standard engine is more than capable, those seeking more power and performance should opt for the 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 engine option. This engine produces 375 horsepower, delivering quicker acceleration and better overall performance.

Beyond its impressive powertrains, the GV70 offers engaging handling characteristics that make it a pleasure to drive through corners. Its well-tuned suspension system and precise steering further contribute to the vehicle’s overall drive, providing a sense of control and reassurance behind the wheel.

Technology & Connectivity

The GV70 has a technologically advanced interior, highlighted by a massive 14.5-inch LCD screen that commands attention as it stretches across the beautifully designed dashboard. This high-resolution display serves as the focal point of the infotainment system and includes built-in navigation, providing drivers with convenient access to maps and turn-by-turn directions for their journeys.

Interacting with the infotainment system can be done in two ways, catering to individual preferences. Firstly, the screen itself is touch-enabled, allowing users to navigate menus, select apps, and adjust settings with their fingertips. Alternatively, the GV70 offers a distinctive click wheel conveniently positioned in front of the center armrest. This console-mounted control mechanism provides an alternative way to interact with the infotainment system without needing to reach for the touchscreen. Users can navigate menus and make selections using the click wheel, offering a tactile and ergonomic option for those who prefer physical controls.

In terms of connectivity, the GV70 comes equipped with standard support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, they need wires, much like they do in the bigger GV80. This is a little dissapointing considering the price tag.

Interior & Comfort

The interior of the GV70 is a testament to both style and functionality, offering an upscale cabin that is visually appealing while also providing practicality for occupants. The spaciousness of the interior ensures that occupants have ample legroom and headroom, creating a comfortable environment for both the driver and passengers. Furthermore, the large doors of the GV70 make entering and exiting the SUV effortless, adding to the convenience of using the vehicle.

Luxury is a defining characteristic of the GV70, and the attention to detail is evident in its high-end features. The front seats are equipped with a wide range of adjustments, allowing drivers and passengers to find their preferred seating position for maximum comfort. In the model we drove, the seats were even equipped with heating, cooling, and massage functions, further enhancing the overall comfort and relaxation during the drive.

While the GV70 offers a luxurious experience, it also strikes a balance between comfort and performance. Compared to its larger sibling, the GV80, the ride quality may not be as soft, but it remains consistently comfortable without ever feeling harsh. The suspension is well-tuned to provide a smooth and controlled ride, effectively absorbing road imperfections to deliver a refined driving experience. Furthermore, the dual-pane windows of the GV70 effectively block out wind and outside noise, contributing to a quiet cabin that enhances the overall high-end experience.

Cargo Space & Storage

One of the standout features of the GV70 is its impressive cargo capacity, making it an excellent choice for those who require ample storage space. With 818.4 L of cargo volume available behind the rear seats, this SUV ranks among the top contenders in its class when it comes to cargo space. The spaciousness of the cargo area simplifies the process of loading and unloading, whether it’s for a family road trip or a trip to the hardware store. The low loading height contributes to the accessibility and ease of use, making it hassle-free to handle larger or heavier objects.

The GV70’s cabin is designed to provide ample storage space, catering to the practical needs of families and individuals alike. Throughout the cabin, you’ll find various storage compartments that enhance convenience and organization. In the front, the cupholders are well positioned and the bin in the center armrest stands out for its spaciousness. Overall, the GV70 offers a cabin that prioritizes practicality and storage space.

Fuel Economy

The EPA estimates a combined 11.6L/100km for the GV70 with the V6 engine. That’s not bad, but there are rivals that are somewhat more efficient since they’ve included a hybrid system.
